…and “I would like to complain about my council tax bill”. Those are just two of the many inappropriate calls we receive via our emergency 999 line. That's why we're urging you to #MakeTheRightCall! As the temperatures rise, the demand on policing rises with it. For instance, in January this year our control room received 9,073 calls. Last month, that number was up to over 11,440 – an increase of more than 23 per cent!
During periods of high demand, it's even more important that we are responding to those who need us most. You can help us to help you by making the right call.
Not sure what that is?
Firstly, please ask yourself whether it really IS a police matter. You’d be amazed by the number of calls we receive that really, REALLY aren’t. If it is, there’s a number of ways you can contact us.
Online: If the crime has already taken place and no one is in danger, the fastest way to report a crime is online. Visit our website at www.beds.police.uk and click the 'Report' button on the homepage.
Webchat: If you would like to report something you know, or speak to someone about something you witnessed, you can do that via our live webchat. By clicking the green speech bubble in the bottom right corner of our website, you can speak to an operator in our control room.
101: Like our live webchat, 101 is for non-emergency calls. We know wait times can be frustrating, so consider if you can use our online reporting service instead.
999: If a crime is in progress, someone is in danger or a serious collision has taken place it's 999 for an immediate police response.
